Secret Nuclear Bunker

Visit Details end of may 2000

The Mast stands 150 ft high and is on top of a hill. The masthead is being used for cellular phone operation but just below that on the third landing is a disused PMR antenna and the club has permission to use the existing coax which goes down into the radio room. It is our intention to install a tri- band aerial for 2m 6m and 70cm
Frank G7TAX volunteered to climb the tower to see how the existing antenna is fitted so we let him get on with it!!
On the left is the radio room located in the bowels of the bunker. Seen here are Paul G0LLE checking the bands while Peter G0IAP fills in the station log. On the right back above ground the rest of us examine a traffic cone?

The traffic cone turned out to be guarding some Heliax cable cut off just above ground level, but with the correct adapter most of it should be usable. The next visit is planned for two weeks time (11/06/00) when Frank will once again defy gravity and install the tri bander - weather permitting.
